Active Pilates is based in Nansledan, Newquay, Cornwall and is run by Collette Barnett.
Collette took up Pilates in January 2010 on the advice of her spinal consultant, primarily to strengthen her core muscles before a spinal fusion operation that could not be performed until after a long planned trip to South Africa in June 2010.
In a matter of weeks, she felt a remarkable improvement in her back and leg pain to the extent that the operation was avoided and, apart from a routine visit to her chiropractor, initially every 8 weeks, Collette was able to self-manage her condition through Pilates. Thanks to Pilates, she is now stronger and fitter than she has ever been and has not needed to see a chiropractor at all since 2015.
Having enjoyed Pilates so much, Collette felt that she wanted to know more and also wanted to pass on the benefits of Pilates to others. As a result, Collette undertook extensive STOTT PILATES training at YMCAFit in Central London in April 2012 and following rigorous practical and theory exams attained the level of certified STOTT PILATES Instructor.
Collette began teaching in June 2013 before lockdown restrictions resulted in her classes moving on line in March 2020. This has allowed people to join from distant locations or when on holiday.
STOTT PILATES is internationally renowned for the quality of its training and STOTT PILATES certified instructors are amongst the most sought after Pilates teachers in the world. They are known as the Ivy League of Pilates Instructors.

Her group and private classes cater for all levels, all abilities and all conditions.
Collette ensures variety and challenge with appropriate modifications and progressions using various small equipment, such as flex bands, fitness circles, mini stability ball, stability cushion, roller, toning balls etc. This not only allows participants to progress at their own pace, but also ensures that the sessions are interesting and as challenging as participants wish.
Unlike many gym classes, Collette’s classes are kept small to ensure everyone receives the professional care and attention they deserve.
Private or semi-private sessions, online or in her home based studio, are perfect for people with specific needs, a restricted time frame or limited availability. The face to face sessions benefit from larger equipment such as STOTT PILATES Reformer, arc barrel, large stability balls and Bosu.
